APA Award - Contributions of Internationalization to Psychology: Toward a Global and Inclusive Discipline: 1 June 2014

For his outstanding contributions to the advancement of cross-cultural psychology around the globe. Over the past 25 years, Fons J. R. van de Vijver has been a guiding light in alerting researchers to critical methodological issues that must be addressed in cross-cultural comparisons (e.g., construct, method, and/or item bias), the undisputed leader in expanding cutting-edge analyses of the relation between culture and human behavior (e.g., personality, intelligence, emotion), and the motivating force behind the development of the South African Personality Inventory, an indigenous scale that addresses all 11 official languages of South Africa, albeit allowing for existing post-Apartheid cultural diversity. An incomparable mentor and educator, he is truly an icon in the field of cross-cultural psychology.
